Elizabeth Leach
I am a final year student, studying Web Technologies. Throughout my time at university I have found parts of the course which I love and some parts in which I do not.
One part which I love is the designing and coding of websites, which has now overlapped into my personal hobbies. I am very enthusiastic about helping others who need websites creating for their businesses.
I love working within a team and passing my ideas onto others, although I can work just as well as an individual and work to very high standards. I enjoy working with HTML, CSS and JavaScript when designing the websites and also enjoy using a range of Adobe products such as Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects.
"Nothing is impossible, the word itself says I'm possible."
3D work
This was part of my first year work. I had to create a short story which included items in a kitchen. I chose to use and create salt and pepper pots having an argument on the table. Everything in the scene was created before putting the scene together.
Dominic Rodgers
This was my final year project for my university work and allowed me to work with a professional client, to put my web building tests to good use. While using Wordpress, I also put some HTML and CSS code in myself.
Joinery Website
This website was one that I created as part of my second year project. I was given a blank canvas to work with as my client needed the website and logo creating. Using Photoshop, I created a simple but stand out logo. I also created the background for the website and integrated a map showing the parts of Sheffield that my client worked.
Typography
Using lyrics from a song by Cascada, I used this to show how words and typography can be used. I picked the main keywords out of the lyric and got them to stand out against the other work.
Thomas Smith
Hi my name is Thomas and I am a web developer.
I am in my final year of university studying Web technologies, whilst I am finishing my studies I am also working for Turn Key a digital agency in Leeds which has opened my eyes massively to how fast the industry is moving and how exciting it is to be within such a fantastic industry.
I would say I am a good all rounder when it comes to web, I would say I am bi-webual as I like coding front end and backend.
"If you snooze, you loose"
Dust devils
Whilst on my year placement I worked on many different sites for which I implemented from designs. One that stands out for me throughout the year was Dust Devils (dustdevils.net). I created the site using HTML 5, PHP and Wordpress.
Strata
Whilst working at turn key I have worked on some fantastic builds and one of the many builds I found challenging but very enjoyable was the strata homes website, this site was built using PHP and is a fully responsive site.
Fenella designs
Whilst working at turn key I have worked on some fantastic builds and one of the many builds I found really enjoyable to work on was the fenella interior design website (fenelladesign.com) the site is fully responsive and is built using php and html 5
University Project
For one of my final assignment I was asked to create a website of my choice that would use an external data feed and use a selection of api's I decided to create a housing site that pulls data from right move website and also uses the Google maps api to display pins on a map of the house locations, there is also a search section which is controls a database search query.
Jordan Webster
I enjoy all front end programming including HTML, CSS and JavaScript, during my final year I have had the chance to move further in to mobile development using these technologies along with Phonegap.
I have a keen interest in server side development and my time on placement game the opportunity to work with an SMS based system including database and VB.NET driven website as well as further my commercial experience in all front end areas of development.
I enjoy working as part of a team always put myself forward to take on new challenges and am keen to experiment with new technologies.
"That's what's cool about working with computers. They don't argue, they remember everything, and they don't drink all your beer."
Photo Pin Point
Android application developed using HTML, CSS, JavaScript and PhoneGap.
The application was designed to incorporate a number of mobile phone features in to an easy to use application. The user can take photos and then view the photo on the page within the application, they also have access to the gallery within the device. Google Maps was used to provide the user with a marker that uses the phone GPS to detect the current position and plot this on the map.
CW HUB
For the small team group project my team developed hub for the Canalside West building, designed for a touch screen kiosk in the entrance to the building. The hub allowed users to search for staff within the building, see where they were located and contact them directly through the kiosk. My role within the team was developing the database side to the product and the connection between it and the front end website.
Savvy Student
For my final year I wanted to design and create a mobile application to help save students money. The functionality of the app is designed to provide users with the nearest available student offers in shops and restaurants.
The bar planner displays what offers are available that day and display the location of these bars on a map. The user can also share the discounts through SMS, Twitter or Facebook using the API's and use the map to see their current position and find their way around.
Greenbank Textile
For the second team project we were given the opportunity to develop a product for a live brief. The company worked with schools to offer textile recycling and donations to different parts of the world and wanted to improve their online presence. I was in charge of the front end HTML and CSS which worked alongside the server side features so users could create personal accounts, request collections and track where their clothes have gone and who they have helped.
Chris Gorrod
My name is Chris, I have a passion for the web and design both in and out of work. My placement year was working in the marketing department at the University of Huddersfield as an assistant web developer and am still working here part time during my final year.
Front end development is my main strong point but also have basic knowledge of back end dev and design. These are areas I am aiming to expand to enable myself to complete a wider range of jobs. After completing my degree I would like to work in a successful design/digital agency or continue with aspects of freelance work which I have started this year. Outside of the web, I enjoy the majority of sports from cricket to American football and am willing to try anything once.
"People who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do."
University Open
Day App
For my final year project I received a live brief from the University of Huddersfield to create an application for their open days. This app makes it easier for potential students to gain a greater insight into uni and university life and hopefully leaves a good impression of their day.
The app is built solely in native Android (Java) and will be available to download on the market place in the next month or so!
The Boutique
The Boutique is a university group project created with Pete Deane, Dale Whiteley and Rizwan Hussain. The brief was to create a website along with print materials for a new hotel chain which consisted of a Hotel, Restaurant and Wine bar. This needed to be housed under one CMS in which we chose Wordpress.
Student blogs
During my placement year I worked for the marketing department at the University of Huddersfield. While here I was put in charge of the creation of the student blogs.
The design for the blogs was supplied via an agency and I had the job of building it from the ground up within Wordpress.
The blogs can be viewed here.
Laura Smith
I have always had a keen interest in I.T. and multimedia, during my studies at Huddersfield University I discovered I have a real passion for the subject, I particularly enjoy the diversity of multimedia. In particular I enjoy the Web programming side of the course particularly.
I believe myself to be a highly motivated, tenacious and hard-working individual who can work effectively both independently and as part of a team. I possess a strong eye for detail and I am experienced in working to tight schedules and meeting deadlines.
During my placement I was lucky enough to have a placement which vastly improved my web development skills and taught me new languages such as PHP and SQL. I would like to further develop my skills in PHP and serverside scripting.
"Don't tell me the sky is the limit when there are footprints on the moon."
Mimo
Mimo was a group project created by myself and Dale Whitely, the app and website combination allowed users to add text images and video through a mobile onto a live wall that could be projected at a concert or festival for the users to share their experiences with everyone.
Involved
Involved is a PHP based website, which was my final year project at Huddersfield University and offers a user friendly graphic user interface for students to manage and submit their assignments.
Team GB
One of Laura's hobbies is underwater hockey, and as a designer Laura was asked to design the Team GB logo and kit for the world championships in Hungary 2013. Laura designed multiple pieces of team kit as well as the team logo and publicity materials.
Andrew Bramwell
Hi im Andy and have been for the last 23 years. I grew up in a little town in Derbyshire called Matlock where my fond love for coding first began.
Throughout my school years I spent a lot of time studying HTML and CSS creating numerous meaningless websites for myself. When I had completed my GCSE's I moved onto college to study the BTEC National Diploma in Graphic Design. This lasted 2 years and in which my view on design had changed on a huge scale.
The idea of designing websites left me; all I wanted to become was a hard coder of all things wonderful on the web. When I finished my Graphic Design course I went to Huddersfield University to study the BSc(hons) Web Technologies course, of which I am currently in my final year. During my third year I went on a placement working in a designer opticians as their web developer.
"Real Eyes Realise Real Lies."
Neuro Pong
Neuro Pong was the outcome of a University project. Its a classic pong game with various power-ups including multiball, paddle size change, extra points and more. It features 2 level types, endless and level mode. Endless uses code to reproduce a new random level each time a level is cleared. Level mode loads level plans from an easily customizable XML file.DJ Booth
DJ Booth is a flash based turntable system that is still under construction. It allows you to choose mp3 tracks from your PC or Mac and play with mixing them together. It uses a weather API to get the current temperature and colours the visualisation accordingly, if its cold it uses blues and if its hot it uses reds.Brosgill Opticians
Brosgill Opticians approached me wanting a cheaper alternative to what they currently had. I rebuilt their E-commerce site and hooked them up with a cheap reliable hosting solution.Carvery and Grill
Carvery and Grill approached me with a previous website of theirs that didnt work very well. I fixed all the problems and made modifications to the layout and functionality to make it more user friendly.Pete Deane

Michael Garlick
Born and raised in Huddersfield, I found my passion for web design and development a little over 9 years ago. I first got into doing basic inline HTML for friends wanting custom MySpace pages but soon moved onto to full blown websites.
Since then I have become proficient in many languages and my time at Huddersfield University has broadened my skill set even further. I primarily work with HTML5, CSS3, PHP, Wordpress, JavaScript and jQuery, utilising Adobe design software like Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.
I would normally describe myself as a frontend designer but having been made to work with .NET and the MVC framework on my course I am also able to utilise the basics of C# and VB.
After University I aim to start a career and continue to add strings to my web design bow.
"Live Long and Prosper"
Stokemandeville Stadium
While on my placement year I worked for Manifest Communications and was put in charge of the redevelopment of Stokemandeville Stadium's website. After the visuals were aproved from the designers. I built this website using HTML, CSS, PHP, Wordpress and Jquery.
You can view the website here.
im13
Yep, I built this website. It was part of a group work project who were put in charge of the marketing and organisation of a one night event in May 2013.
I built this website with HTML5, CSS3, PHP and jQuery but credit goes to Laura Smith for the SQL, Dale Adlington for the showreel and Danny Wootton for the design work.
The Volition
For my final year project I built a completely new social network aimed at the design and web industry. Users of the site can create profiles, projects (with images, audio and video), and search for jobs in their specific industry.
I built this website with HTML5, CSS3, PHP, Wordpress, BuddyPRess and jQuery
You can view the site here.
Little Boppers

You can read more about Little Boppers here.
Rebecca Johnson
I have always enjoyed IT and design but didn't put two and two together until choosing my degree course. I have enjoyed all aspects of the course and getting a broad spectrum of what's involved for multimedia production.
As the years have progressed my passion has proven to be the design side, leading into front end development but I have enjoyed learning the nature of back end coding.
I enjoy opportunities to throw herself into live briefs and regularly try to obtain freelance work on the side. I worked for the NHS Health Informatics Service on placement and was able to continue part time in my final year studies and have secured employment on graduation.
"Always practice safe design, use a concept."
Auntie Pam's
Whilst on my placement I lead a development of the 'Auntie Pam's: advice for mums to be' website. Aunties Pam's are a volunteer run initiative of the Kirklees health district.
Implementation was based on pre-existing brand design and was aimed to be a quick source of information on their service, and getting both volunteers and new mums involved. Further details can be found here.
Typography Portrait
In my second year of university we were asked to develop a typography based portrait of ourselves. I wanted to achieve simplicity. Show that words can speak through as well as features. A strong person content with themself.
When I first read the brief I decided I wanted it to be minimal and made up in the majority of lines of text rather than individual characters and glyphs as I wanted the words to speak about me as well as the composition. View it here.
Health Informatics Service
The Health Informatics Service website is a particularly proud piece of work myself as I was entrusted with high degree of ownership with the project.
The old website needed a re-fresh to reflect current branding and so was involved in the design and development of the website build as-well as the assets incorporated. The Website can be found here.
Paul Reilly
From West London and always surround myself with Art and Design and remain positively minded. I am always coming up with ideas constantly in every day situations being media-related or not.
I love being creative and always like to help innovative projects with constructive feedback, analysis and brainstorming. I believe thorough teamwork is always essential in successful projects. I am a keen photographer and also like to record video with a principle of getting the recording right before the post-production.
I like to play around in Illustrator with vector graphics and typography. This leads to my interest to study typefaces in my spare time and have included this interest in my Final Year Project.
"Research, analyzing and planning can always benefit the end product when answering any creative brief."
Photograhy
Whenever I have a free amount of time I like to play around with my camera finding textures for design work, or play around with framing and perspectives. Photography has always been a passion of mine and lately I enjoy capturing some low-light photography that includes some light painting time to time.
Vido
I like creative video projects, either being animated using self-made graphics, recording a band's live set and audio or just a short ident for a brand or channel. I like to plan thoroughly, take my time when shooting and get the best footage I can, so when it comes to post-production I am re-adapting less to issues like an out of focus clip to corrupted footage from an SD card.
Typography
I had an interest in Typography for some time because it helps to take time pickling the current and best fitting font family or fonts for a website, brand or poster, even a designer’s signature. Branding always gives me an opportunity to analyse and create an identity of a project or constructively improve the look of a band.
Danny Wootton
Hi my name is Danny. I'm very keen, enthusiastic and passionate about all things digital and always eager to learn new skills whilst developing my ideas. I love working with brands and embrace working in the digital sector. I also love connecting with others who enjoy the same.

During my placement, I indulged into the design aspects of the profession and I quickly found my talent in online marketing. I swiftly gained both my confidence and experience needed to further my career in this ever advancing and fast paced industry.
"You only live once but if you do it right, once is enough."
Canalside Studios
During my placement year I was given the task of creating the website for the successful student run games studios at the University of Huddersfield, Canalside Studios. I had to create the website using a one page design, collect the content for the site including taking team profiles and uploading the site using multiple servers.
The site is used to promote the games created and the courses within the Digital Media Subject Area.
Drew Forsyth & Co.
After completing my placement year, I quickly secured a part-time position at Drew Forsyth & Co. as the Website and Marketing Coordinator. This position has given me the independence and responsibility of individually managing the marketing of the company, where I still work alongside my final year of studies.
Season's Greetings
I undertook the task of creating the Universities annual festive card for 2012. I decided to think outside of the box and not only create a printed card but an animated, interactive online version as well.
After meeting up with the Deputy Vice Chancellor to present my ideas a finalised concept was made a reality with an animated campus map.

Earth Cafe
For my final year project I undertook a complete re-brand for Earth Café, a vegan, vegetarian juice bar located in Manchester's Northern quarter.
The site promotes the café and portrays a much more confident image. Using PHP as my programming language I built a web based login system where the staff can update and modify their menu then tweet their dishes.

Video
This is the first ever video I filmed as a University student. Filming this video was both a challenging and exciting for me. The video features my two class mates James Maack and Lydia Draper plus my course leader Michael O’Grady. The aim of the video was to promote the course Interactive Multimedia as I felt that the course does not receive the recognition that it deserves despite it being one of the most complex yet creative courses in the computing area. Hi, My name is Dale and I am a final year student studying at Huddersfield University.
I have always found design a interesting subject to engage with, as there is so many different elements and depths to the area. Being a final year student at Huddersfield University, I have been able develop my skills in the Adobe suite like Photoshop, Illustrator and In-design. Being a multimedia student has also taught me to use coding languages like HTML 5, CSS, mobile frameworks like Jquery mobile and most recently PHP. This new skills combined with my designing skills has gave me a great start for when I graduate from University.I believe myself to be a hard working individual who is keen and enthusiastic to learn new skills in designing or coding.
Once I have finished my degree in April, I will be looking for a full time role within a web/design company, so please feel free to get in touch if you have any question that you would like to ask.
"Design is intelligence made visible"
Coupon Cloud
For my final year project, I thought I would investigate to see if digital media could potentially help the economy in a local town. So I built a web application called Coupon Clouds, which is a voucher deal application. The application allows people to sign up and receive discount on high street brands, but to make the application more unique some of the deals are time released for a short period of time, in the attempted to drive potential customers to the store.
